1. Characterize the Parties (People) involved in the Conflict
 
A conflict situation is comprised of people who have different perspectives on one or more issues. All information gathered in these components informs the choice of intervention, which is discussed in the sixth component. This last component not only outlines most of the decisions that must be made in designing an intervention but also provides options for each decision.
